When Health Becomes Everything

It's easy to get caught up in the wheel of life. We roll down the road pursuing common goals of family, work, and fulfillment. Our to-do lists pile up and we dilligently cross of the tasks. We try to keep focused on what's important, which often manifests as earning more money, having more fun, being of service and finding our purpose.

It all makes sense, and you feel like you're getting somewhere until WHAM! Your health fails.

It happened to me around Christmas last year. I usually thought of myself as strong, fit, and capable. On any given day, I might ride my bike twenty miles over rocky, mountainous terrain, hunt bull elk deep in the backcountry with bow and arrow, build a horse stall by hand, install an air conditioner, or toss heavy kettlebells in every direction. I considered myself quite the specimen of human capability—until I got sick. Really sick.

It started as a cold that never went away. I became confined to my bedroom with a fever that lasted five days. My strength and resolve had been whittled away by the tiniest organism on the planet: a simple virus. All of my lofty aspirations faded away and were replaced by the primal desire to survive. My goals of wealth and achievement were eclipsed by the simple need to be well.

When your health falters, nothing else matters.

I rallied all the healing allies I could summon. Melissa supported me with her potent hand crafted herbs. I cleansed and smudged daily (Lavender Sage Spray is my current favorite). I prepared gallons of my secret healing brew: ginger, honey, cayenne, and lemon. Most importantly, I worked in the internal realms with a healing visualization of light.

And that is what I want to share with you: When you lose your health, it can feel like you have lost everything. Ironically, when we are well, health can be the furthest thing from our mind—and that is when we can be the most vulnerable.

Yes, pursue your goals and chase your dreams, but always remember your health.

The Healing Light Meditation

- Find a comfortable, quiet space
- Sit or lie down in a relaxed position
- Ensure you won't be disturbed for 15-20 minutes

**Preparation**
Close your eyes and take three deep, slow breaths. With each inhale, imagine drawing in calm, healing energy. With each exhale, release tension and stress.

**Body Relaxation**
Begin to scan your body from the top of your head down to your toes. Notice any areas of tension or discomfort. Imagine a warm, soft light gently touching each part of your body, slowly melting away any stress or pain.

**Visualization Journey**
Picture yourself in a peaceful, serene space. This could be:
- A quiet forest clearing
- A tranquil beach at sunrise
- A gentle meadow with soft sunlight

**Healing Light Visualization**
Imagine a brilliant, pure white light beginning to form above your head. This is your healing light—pure, gentle, and filled with restorative energy.

**Healing Process**
Slowly, the light begins to descend:

It touches the crown of your head
Flows down through your mind, clearing away worries
Moves into your neck and shoulders, releasing tension
Spreads through your chest, warming your heart
Flows down your arms, removing any heaviness
Enters your stomach, bringing calm and healing
Moves through your legs, grounding you
Reaches your feet, grounding you to the earth

**Affirmation**
As the light moves through you, repeat silently:
*"I am healing. I am whole. I am peace."*

**Deep Healing**
Imagine the light now penetrating deeper. It reaches into your cells, your bones, your entire being. Feel it washing away any illness, any pain, any negative energy.

**Closing**
Sit with this feeling of warmth and healing for several minutes. Breathe naturally. Feel completely supported and restored.

**Gentle Return**
Slowly begin to wiggle your fingers and toes. Take a deep breath. When you're ready, open your eyes.
